  • Hearing covers airport issues

    Sue Stafford|Updated Feb 14, 2017

The intended scope of last week's public hearing by the Oregon Department of Aviation (ODA) was very narrow: Does Sisters Eagle Airport meet one of three criteria to be listed as a matter of State concern in Appendix M? However, the majority of concerns for community members (for and against) were actually outside the scope of the hearing - and wide-ranging. Sisters Eagle Airport, owned by Benny and Julie Benson, filed an application with ODA to have the airport added to... Full story

    Jim Anderson, Correspondent|Updated Feb 14, 2017

He knew it was important for him to capture an image of it. Afterwards, he went to the Banding Lab website, reported his sighting and discovered it was tagged at the Portland Airport just a couple of weeks earlier. At last... Full story

  • Exercising to lose weight - the jury's out

    Andrew Loscutoff|Updated Feb 14, 2017

Weight loss is touted as one of the top benefits from exercise. But what if the correlation to exercise and weight loss were not as strong as was once thought? If a person exercises, they are burning calories. If they consume less than they burn, the body transfers stored energy. This is a very simple way to look at it, but the process is much more dynamic than a lot of people understand. This is why exercise alone will not account to substantial weight loss. Calories are the units used to measure how much energy is in food.... Full story

  • Under the Volcano

    Craig Rullman|Updated Feb 14, 2017

Yesterday, encouraged by the bluest skies, I bravely opened the door to our shop. Our shop, where I like to futz and putter and try to make things, or fix things, or think about things, had become a desultory crypt of neglect. That's my fault. It's been something of a challenging winter thus far, as you may have noticed, and I've tried to conserve and focus my energies on more pressing concerns, which means that sometimes, more often that I would like to admit, I've tromped th... Full story
