    Freshman Mary Stewart stole the show last weekend at the OSAA Swimming State Championships at Mt. Hood Community College. Stewart earned the title of state champion as she re-broke her own school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.70. It was a tight race, with another swimmer challenging Stewart.   • Ballots to go out for local option

    Registered voters in the Sisters School District will receive their local option levy ballots in the mail next week. The ballots can be returned by mail or dropped off at city hall no later than March 12. If the five-year levy is renewed in 2013, the levy would provide the Sisters School District (SSD) with a continuation of the local option taxes at the rate of 75 cents per $1,000 of a property's assessed value.     Clearwater Gallery and the conservation organization Friends of the Metolius joined forces last Saturday to celebrate the Metolius River.     Beginning March 12, a new course in entrepreneurship will be offered to Sisters High School juniors and seniors. The name of the course is "Pursue Your Passion." The course will probe the soul of entrepreneurship by exploring the elements key to the development of a "sellable" business plan.     The Outlaws suffered a 51-29 loss at home against Elmira on Friday, February 15, to wrap up league play and bring their season to an end. Three days earlier Sisters fell 62-28 at Cottage Grove.     Sisters equestrian athlete Julie Klemz, 16, and her horse, Divine Horizon (Devon), 23, recently returned from the United States Eventing Association Area 7 annual meeting with a championship award.     Once again, Ky Karnecki, owner of the Wild Mountain food stand, made a plea to the city council on Thursday to avoid having to move his stand from its current location on the southeast corner of Locust and Highway 20.   • Salvage logging proposed

    The Forest Service is proposing salvage logging on 1,051 acres of the area burned by the Pole Creek Fire last year. The fire, which started on September 9, 2012 and was declared contained on October 17, 2012, burned over some 21,120 acres south and southwest of Sisters.
