    Developers of an approximately 24-unit affordable housing project in Sisters are exploring the possibilities of creating a community center on nearby city park land. Cyndy Cook of the Central Oregon Regional Housing Authority (CORHA) broached the idea at a Sisters City Council workshop on Thursday, February 15.     An Environmental Assessment (EA) of the proposed expansion of Suttle Lake Resort is slated for completion by early March, according to Bill Anthony, Sisters District Ranger. Recent stories about Suttle Lake have examined the geology, recreational history, fisheries and water quality of the lake.   • Sheriff's levy, school posts lead ballot

    A three-year extension of the current sheriff's levy and the election of three school board members lead Sisters area concerns on the March 13 ballot. Sheriff Les Stiles is asking voters for a split-rate levy to fund his office's operations over the next three years. Residents of unincorporated areas would pay $1.12 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation; residents of incorporated areas or communities that have their own police force (such as Black Butte Ranch) would pay 78 cents per $1,000.   • School hosts student leadership workshop

    Over 150 student leaders from eight schools around the state met at Sisters High School earlier this month to sharpen their leadership skills. The all-day assembly was sponsored by the OASC --the Oregon Association of Student Councils -- a non-profit group that is dedicated to providing leadership training for both students and advisors.     - Deputies arrested a Sisters man who put a knot on his girlfriend's head in an argument. The argument was allegedly over his ungallant behavior in leaving her at a bar and going home. Seems the fellow was feeling down about the death of racer Dale Earnhardt.   • First businesses hooked to sewer

    The Gallery Restaurant is to be the first business connected to the Sisters sewer. After the Gallery closes at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, CRM Contracting will quickly hook up the lateral connection between the restaurant and the main sewer line.
