  • Judge Tiktin hammers Mt. Shadow lawsuit

    Eric Dolson|Updated Mar 11, 1997

    A. Wayne Scott was slapped with a stinging rebuke by Judge Stephen Tiktin on March 6. Tiktin ruled that Scott's lawsuit against Barclay Contractors of Sisters was "meritless." Scott had sued Barclay for $171,000 for alleged construction deficiencies at the Mt. Shadow RV Park in Sisters. But on February 5, a jury found that Scott still owed Barclay about $83,000 for work done. In this last ruling, Judge Tiktin said Scott's initial claims for $171,000 were "so grossly overstated as to be ludicrous." The evidence that Scott had... Full story

Hikers using wilderness trails in the Sisters Ranger District this summer will pay for the pleasure by purchasing a new Trail-Park permit. The regional Trail-Park permit system is a three-year experiment that the agency hopes will help finance both trail maintenance and facility and site restoration. • Letters, letters, letters

    Updated Mar 11, 1997

    * * * To the Editor: Thank you for printing my letter. It would have been nice to print what I wrote instead of modifying it to suit your own political agenda. The state of Oregon (which is what you printed) and the State of Oregon (which is what I sent in) are not the same thing. The state of Oregon (i.e., Oregon state, Oregon country, Oregon territory) is the de jure side of the Law. The State of Oregon is the de facto side of the Law. You completely changed the meaning of my submitted letter and, if anyone was intelligent... Full story

Real Soup I have known three saints in my life. Two of them were dishwashers. Saint number three, in order of meeting, had nothing to do with this subject. Saint number two was a purist-idealist named Marcott, whom my husband and I ran across in a fantastic coincidence while we were roaming through Oregon, searching for a home with good water and clean air. Tired and discouraged, draggy from the west-side rain, we had ducked into a small restaurant in Eugene, ready to put our quest on hold, dry our feet, and return to... Full story
