  • Sisters still accepting out-of-district students

    The Sisters School Board last week took another look at its policy on students transferring into or out of the district — and decided to maintain the status quo. But several members were careful to explain that the current policy does not represent an “open door.” The main qualification is that students from other districts are welcome as long as there is room in the affected Sisters classrooms.   • Girls golf team returns experienced members

    Sisters High School returns some experienced players to the girls golf team this season. The squad will be made up entirely of seniors: Kayla Miller, Krystal Fitter, MacKinzie McClain, Brittany Reed, Kelsey Gillespie and Stephanie Pledger.   • Forester talks about enemies of local trees

    It’s not easy being a tree in Central Oregon. Ponderosa pine, lodgepole pine, grand fir, juniper, aspen, white fir, and larch face enemies that include humans (forest fires), weather, lightning and insects (disease).   • Outlaw golfers tee up for season

    Only two varsity players return to the Outlaw golf team this season. Senior Scott Little is back for his final year on the team and Scott Barton returns as a junior. Little played in the off-season with the Central Oregon Golf Association (COGA) and, according to Coach Jeff Barton, he had a lot ofsuccess. “He’s improved his game and will be a good leader for us this year,” Barton said.   • School hosts pre-spring band and choir concert

    The Sisters High School Concert Band and Choir combined to present the Pre-Spring Concert to an appreciative audience of several hundred last week in the high school performance hall. Choir leader Tara MacSween led off the evening with six numbers by the Concert Choir; the final piece, “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit,” featured soloist Jacob Seal.   • Softball team prepares for a new season

    The Sisters High School girls softball team returns nine players to the varsity team and will add three talented freshmen to the roster. Only two seniors return to the squad: All-league first baseman Cortney Peters and Crystal Jewell, who will play in the field. Cindy Harp will spend most of her time behind the plate as catcher but will also see some time at third base.   • Local representatives to meet in Sisters

    Senator Ben Westlund will be joined by State Representatives Gene Whisnant and Chuck Burley to meet with constituents in Sisters at a town hall meeting scheduled for Saturday, March 19 at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Best Western Ponderosa Lodge meeting room at 500 Hwy. 20 West. The event is open to the public and people are encouraged to attend this opportunity to address their legislators.   • Business program offers orientation

    Many Sisters area residents want to increase their income and assets by growing their idea, hobby or existing business into a viable enterprise. A Central Oregon microenterprise program sponsored by local Community Action Teams offers 36 hours of business training with classes, one-on-one business advising, ongoing mentoring and business peer groupsupport.   • Track teams ready for first meet

    With 17 different events to cover for track meets, the first weeks of the season are devoted to determining who will fit where. With 65 boys and girls out at Sisters High School, track coach Ross Kennedy and his assistants have been doing a lot of evaluating and sorting to find the sprinters, jumpers, throwers, hurdlers and distance runners to balance out the teams.
