A "posse" of about 30 Camp Sherman residents wearing "Save our Sheriff" badges trekked to Madras Thursday, March 12, to press for funds to keep Deputy Sheriff Dave Blann on the job in the community west of Sisters. Three members of the Sisters Sewer Focus Group resigned in protest Monday night, March 16, because the groups "agenda seems to us to be blatantly biased" in favor of the sewer. Libby Bottero, Virginia Groom and Pam Emmrich left the community information meeting after stating their objections to the tone and content of the focus group's first newsletter, sent out this week. A group of Sisters residents is looking for $600,000 to build a community center. Carol C.B. Davis asked the Sisters City Council Thursday, March 12, to act as the administrator for a community development block grant to build the center. Davis represents a committee of five service club members and other interested citizens, who plan to apply for the federal grant in the city's name next month. Lill Palmer, owner of the Ski Inn, has once again donated the proceeds from a day's sales to Sisters Habitat for Humanity. "We did great. We were real happy with the turnout," Palmer said of the Saturday, March 14, event at the cafe on Cascade Street at the east end of Sisters. Palmer said that about $1,500 was raised through sales, even though an error on the part of The Nugget said the proceeds were going to Hospice, instead of Habitat for Humanity. The Sisters Starry Nights Concert Series thrives off the support of its sponsors. Many of those sponsors are giving a hand to their kids' hometown schools. According to Sisters School District Superintendent Steve Swisher, Sisters Starry Nights and the Sisters Schools Foundation were created in 1996 in response to the district's financial challenges.
