  • Club makes quilts for preemies

    After a full day of sewing last month, Sisters Sparrow Club members completed 22 quilts, which will soon be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House in Bend. Last fall the Sisters High School Sparrow Club decided that for one of their community service projects they would set aside a day, Saturday, February 28, to make quilts for the Ronald McDonald House.     Over the past couple of weeks it seems that nearly everyone in Sisters has been down with some kind of bug - bad colds, respiratory infections and "the crud" that feels like the flu even when it's not. Last Friday, there were 44 Sisters Elementary School students out sick and numbers were even higher the week before. "It's tapering off a bit," said Principal Jan Silberman.   • Stimulus funds go to Sisters forest work

    As the first phase of Forest Service economic stimulus funds arrive in Central Oregon, two Deschutes National Forest contracts were awarded Tuesday under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. A contract was awarded to Melcher Logging, Incorporated in the amount of $1,472,000 for work in Jefferson County on the Sisters Ranger District.
