    Gary Pepperling passed away on March 18, 2011 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. His wife of 51 years was at his side. He was 69 years old and a lifetime resident of Sisters. At his request, no service will be held "until the damn snow goes away." He was born August 17, 1941 in Lebanon, Oregon, to Delmar Pepperling and Eleanora Johnson Pepperling.   • TAPS warns on providing alcohol

    A team of high school student volunteers got up early on the first day of spring break to place hundreds of stickers on cases and six-packs of alcohol products in local outlets, warning buyers of the dangers of providing alcohol to minors, as part of the Think Again ParentS (TAPS) Sticker Shock campaign. The stop-sign shaped sticker says, "Stop - Buying alcohol for a minor? It is illegal for any person 21 or older to purchase or provide alcohol to an underage person.... Full story

    Jenna Sneva knew the first time she put on a pair of snow skis that she had stepped into her life passion. By the age of 13, she saw the Olympics on her horizon. From the age of 7, she began winning medals, skiing in the Mount Bachelor Ski Foundation program and in youth and teen competitions at national levels. In April, 2010, at the age of 19, she won gold at the USA Snowboard Association in Skier Cross. A wipeout worse than any she had suffered in her years of sports... Full story

    • A man called requesting permission to dispatch a crippled deer on his property. He was instructed to shoot in a safe direction and not to use excessive force. Ummmm...     Surrounded by pets and family, Faye died peacefully in her home in Sisters after a short illness.
