    Hattenhauer Distributing Co. of The Dalles has purchased Sisters Oil in downtown Sisters. The company has been the Shell station's fuel distributor for some time. "The prompt came when one of the competitors made an offer," said Pete Hattenhauer. "We didn't want to lose the site."   • Black Butte Ranch to vote on security tax levy

    Black Butte Ranch homeowners will decide in May whether they want to increase the amount they pay to maintain 24/7 police services. Last week, the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners approved placing a proposed local five-year levy on the ballot at a rate of 55 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value. BBR residents have a permanent levy of $1.05 per $1,000. The new levy, which replaces an expiring levy, adds 15 cents per $1,000 to the tax bill - about $75 per year for a $500,000 home.   • Norma Holmes talks pastels with BBR Art Guild

    "I was born in Carmel," Norma Holmes said. "My grandfather was an artist, which is one reason I probably paint today." She sold her horse farm in Pescadero, California, which gave her the freedom to paint for the rest of her life. She then did what she describes as the best thing she has ever done: she moved to Sisters. The year was 1991.   • Sisters sheriff's calls...

    • A 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 73 west of Sisters when the driver lost control in snow and icy conditions and crossed the westbound lane. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, turning over onto its passenger side and sheering a tree off about five feet from the ground. The vehicle then went off an embankment and tipped up on its front before falling back onto the sheered tree stump. The driver was not seriously hurt. • Scam alert!   • Golf teams compete in Crooked River Tourney

    The Outlaws golf teams traveled to Crooked River for their first match of the season on Wednesday, March 17. The boys team placed second and the girls fielded an incomplete team. Sisters' boys squad took second, with a team score of 351, 27 strokes behind Crook County, who took top honors. Bend was third (356), Madras fourth (360), Mountain View fifth (368) and Sweet Home rounded out the scoring at 389.   • 50th Wedding Anniversary

    Bob and Sandi Casper celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family cruise to the Mexican Riviera with their sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. They were married March 5, 1960 in Silver Springs, Maryland, and after careers in teaching & coaching (Bob) and nursing (Sandi), they retired and moved to Sisters in 1999.
