Close to 300 skiers ventured up the McKenzie Pass for the John Craig Memorial Ski Race and Mail Carry on Saturday, March 24. From Olympians to recreational skiers, the event offered something for everyone. Work has begun on a 19-unit apartment complex on Adams Avenue in Sisters. Sisters' planning commission gave the go-ahead to Hap Taylor on Wednesday, March 21, to build a 19-unit apartment complex on Adams Avenue in Sisters. Fears about school safety hit close to home in recent weeks, with the arrest of a Mountain View High School student for allegedly plotting to murder a teacher and fellow students. Stephanie West rode "Vegas" in her audition for the title of Sisters Rodeo Queen. Stephanie West of Bend has been selected as the 2001 Sisters Rodeo Queen, following auditions held March 25 at the Sisters Rodeo Arena. She will reign during the 61st annual Sisters Rodeo to be held June 8-10 and she will represent the rodeo at other events during the year, according to John Leavitt, queen selection committee chair. Outlawnet won a temporary restraining order last week against Verado, the company that provides Outlawnet with its connection to the internet. Outlawnet is the local Internet service provider affiliated with Sisters Schools. Verado, of Greenwood Village, Colorado, apparently attempted to knock Outlawnet off the Internet without any notice. The burbling waters of ??? Creek? Local activists are working on a plan to restore the health of Squaw Creek. However, if Senate Bill 488 were to become law, "Squaw Creek" would cease to exist altogether. In reality, the creek itself would continue to flow -- but the name would be gone. The change is part of a nationwide movement to end the use of place names bearing the word "squaw." A driver for High Country Disposal got a fiery surprise as he hauled his load from Black Butte Ranch to Redmond on Thursday morning, March 29. As he pulled through Sisters and down Highway 126, he noticed that his load was smoking. He stopped and got out to see the paint blistering on the side of his truck as the trash he carried began to burn. The driver pulled into a wide, dirt turnout and dumped his load. St. Edward's Church is graced by new stained glass windows depicting the Garden of Eden. New stained glass window tableau's now grace St. Edward's Catholic Church in Sisters. The windows were installed on Friday, March 30.
