  • Residents concerned about cell phone tower

    A proposal to site a 150-foot communications tower near the intersection of Plainview Road and Highway 20 has neighbors concerned about the impact on views. The tower, one of several proposed by American Tower Corporation to be sited in Central Oregon, would stand on private property owned by Wesley and Sandra Lee Hoekstra.   • Housing surveys focus on Sisters needs, trends

    Housing surveys are being sent to one out of every 15 households in Central Oregon in the month of April. The Central Oregon Housing Survey is designed to identify housing needs and trends. However, the Central Oregon Housing Needs Assessment Committee is supplying 2,000 extra copies of the survey to the Sisters area, including 426 for the City of Sisters, as part of what it calls "a special emphasis on supporting emerging efforts to develop affordable housing in Sisters."   • Hunters gather in Sisters

    Three hundred hunting and fishing enthusiasts were treated to an evening of exhibits, instruction and fellowship at the First Annual Sisters Sportsman's Banquet held at Sisters Community Church Saturday, April 1. The event, which included a catered steak dinner from Tumalo Feed Company, was sponsored by four local churches including Sisters Community Church Three Sisters Fellowship, Sisters Christian, and Calvary Chapel.   • Kiwanis host huge rummage sale

    The Kiwanis Club of Sisters will hold what club officials call"the largest rummage sale in the history of Sisters" on Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8. Several thousand items on sale include: household goods; athletic and sporting equipment; tools; original paintings and watercolors; kitchen and cookware; clothing; car accessories; and many unique and unusual antique and collectible items.   • Deana Carter and Matraca Berg to join Dirt Band

    The final show for the 2000 Sisters Starry Nights Concert Series season has a surprise in store for ticket holders. Series organizers have confirmed that country star Deana Carter will join the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Matraca Berg for the Saturday, April 8, performance at Sisters High School.   • CATS director admits lying to newspaper

    Ted Viramonte, Executive Director of the Community Action Team of Sisters (CATS), provided inaccurate information in a grant for affordable housing. Viramonte then attempted to cover up the inaccuracy by making false statements to a reporter from The Nugget. Viramonte's salary is at least in part dependent on the grant funding process. CATS has reprimanded Viramonte, established a grant oversight committee and opened its proceedings to public scrutiny in response to Viramonte's actions.
