  • Black Butte School students triumph

    Black Butte School (BBS) students in Camp Sherman spent their winter and spring examining triumph and tragedy in history. Their performance at National History Day state finals was all triumph. Ten students placed in the competition on April 14, qualifying to compete in national finals in College Park, Maryland, later this year. "We've had this many compete before, but we've never had this many place," said BBS teacher Kandia Cross.   • Kiwanis marks admission of women

    Kiwanis Club of Sisters, like many other civic organizations 20 years ago, limited its membership to men. Like most civic organizations today, membership from both men and women is now encouraged. Today, Kiwanis International celebrates the anniversary of the inclusion of women by honoring those women who have made a significant contribution to their communities through service.   • Sisters movie showing helps Fossil Library

    The documentary about the event that shaped Oregon legendary track and field coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman's life is being shown at Sisters Movie House on Thursday, April 19. The film screening, which starts at 7 p.m., is a fund-raiser for the public library in the tiny town of Fossil, Oregon, where Bowerman grew up. The film, "One Day in September," was the 1999 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary and is about the 1972 Munich Olympics when Palestinian terrorists took Israeli athletes hostage (see movie... Full story

  • Habitat for Humanity opens ReStore shop

    The newest Habitat for Humanity venture opened its doors to the Sisters community for the first time ever at 10 a.m. sharp last Saturday morning, April 14. Several customers were waiting and ready to spend their money when the doors were unlocked. ReStore is a place where furniture, appliances, doors and windows abound.   • Sisters has a new schools chief

    Sisters School District has a new CEO. She is Dr. Elaine Drakulich, the current Assistant Superintendent of the North Clackamas School District, 12 miles southeast of Portland. Drakulich will assume her new post as superintendent on July 1. Sisters School Board members convened in a special public session on Monday night, April 16, and voted unanimously to approve Drakulich's contract.
