Sisters firefighters will burn a house in Sisters on Saturday, April 23, in a “Burn to Learn” exercise, according to Dave Wheeler, fire marshal for the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District. The house is located at the intersection of Main Avenue and Fir Street just west of the Bank of the Cascades. Sisters scholars had chimps in the classroom last week. Well... at least four nice large pictures of the chimpanzees that live at Tumalo’s Chimps, Inc., sanctuary. Sanctuary volunteer Dan Abbot brought them with him to the COCC Lunch and Learn session at Sisters Episcopal Church of theTransfiguration. The long trip to Eagle Point for the annual Crater Rotary Classic Track and Field Invitational was worth it for the Sisters boys and girls teams as a number of individuals recorded season’s bests in the highly competitive meet. Sisters joined a total of 22 3A and 4A teams for the meet that produced some of the state’s best marks of the year. The Lady Outlaws took a bruising 8-1 loss to Cascade on Monday, April 11, and then suffered a 15-4 drubbing at the hands of the Stayton Eagles just one day later. Sammy Stoneback pitched the first five innings in Monday’s game against Cascade. Michaela Bennett pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings to close the game. Sisters knows it’s spring when the annual Small Farmer’s Journal Auction and Swap Meet rolls into town. Held April 22-24, at the Sisters Rodeo grounds on Highway 20 four miles east of town. The event promises to be as big as and likely even better than last year. Small Farmer’s Journal is a magazine, published in Sisters by Lynn Miller and his staff. The auditorium at Sisters High School rang with some of the best young voices in Central Oregon performing in a vocal festival on Tuesday, April 12. Seven Central Oregon schools participated in the event including Burns, Madras, Bend, Summit, Mt. View, Crook County and Sisters. The annual event rotates to different schools each year. The Lady Outlaws golf team is tearing up the links. The girls won their Capital Conference match on Tuesday, April 5 and also claimed top honors at the District Preview in Molalla just two days later. Tuesday’s match at Mallard Creek in Sweet Home went forward in cool, windy, rainy weather but the conditions didn’t deter Sisters, which finished first with a team score of 385. Sisters citizens will get a first look at plans for their new City Hall on April 25. City council members will be presenting a proposed exterior design for Sisters’ new city hall building to the public from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the current City Hall.
