  • District promises oversight of bond projects

    Jim Cornelius, News Editor|Updated Apr 20, 2016

When the Sisters School District sought public input before seeking a $10.7 million bond issue, one of the major points of concern was oversight of bond-funded construction projects. That is, in large part, a reaction to the failure of the roof at Sisters High School - which will be repaired but not replaced with bond funds. "That was a major community concern," school board member Amanda Clark. Roof repair is only one among several projects that will require oversight. The... Full story

  • The Bunkhouse Chronicle: A Raid For Horseflesh

    Criag Rullman|Updated Apr 20, 2016

Two weeks ago my mother called and dropped a bomb on our house. She asked if I was sitting down. I wasn't, but I did, quickly, because that's what sons do when their mothers start a conversation that way. And if you are a mother reading this, please don't do that. She was rolling her bed, she said, selling her saddle, and wanted to know if I would take her last good horse. That's heady stuff from a woman who has been horseback from birth, a natural born daughter of the desert... Full story

  • Take action, face the challenge, never give up

    Katy Yoder|Updated Apr 20, 2016

Losing weight sure isn't for wimps. Since I began slimming down, I've had three anxiety attacks and multiple sleep terrors that cause me to wake up screaming ... not an easy thing for my poor husband to handle! I'd never had anxiety attacks before, but the sleep terror disorder has plagued me since childhood. I knew I was uncomfortable when I lost weight in the past but the feelings were elusive, striking with no warning and then disappearing into the uncharted territory of my subconscious. I never stopped to consider why I... Full story

  • Track teams train through meet

    Updated Apr 20, 2016

The track season requires coaches and athletes to pick and choose what meets to focus on and which ones to train through, which is quite different than other team sports in which the league standings matter. For track and field, the ultimate meets are district and state, so three-way meets like the one Sisters faced last week at Sweet Home become training days as much as anything. "We were tired and flat last week due to heavy training," said Head Coach Jeff Larson. "I had... Full story
