  • Sisters man arrested for burglary

    Sheriff's deputies arrested 21-year-old Jason Alan Melton, of Sisters, on burglary charges Sunday, April 20, a fter he allegedly attempted to get into two homes on Indian Ford Road. According to sheriff's reports, Melton and another man went to one home and asked to use the phone. When the resident refused, they allegedly went to the back door, where the resident confronted them as they were opening the locked door.   • Alcohol suspected in wreck

    Teddy Dale George, 22, of Sisters, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and second-degree assault after a wreck April 18 that sent several Sisters area residents to the hospital. According to sheriff's department reports, George lost control of his Ford pickup as he tried to pass another vehicle heading northbound on Camp Polk Road at about 11:24 p.m. George allegedly drove off the west side of the road and rolled the truck several times.   • Benefit concert series ends with a flourish

    A packed house at Sisters Middle/High School auditorium was treated to a musical palette ranging from country-rock to folk-pop to cool jazz vocals in the final night of the Sisters Starry Nights benefit concert series Saturday, April 19. The concert, third in a series benefiting the Sisters School Foundation, was kicked off by a rousing set by local musician Phillipe "Frenchy" Mallen and Twang, which had the crowd clapping along and dancing in their seats.   • Black Butte students sweep history honors

    Seven Black Butte School students swept a state-wide history competition held in Salem on Saturday, April 19. All seven placed either first or second in their categories, earning the right to comp ete in national competition at the University of Maryland beginning June 15. The competition's theme was "Tragedy and/or Triumph," and the students' objective was to show people facing and overcoming adversity in a historical context.   • Barclay Ranch zone approved by city

    Developer Ted Eady has won a zone change that will allow him to construct an inn on his Barclay Ranch property at the north end of Sisters. Sisters voters approved the annexation of the property in an election in March. The Sisters Urban Area Planning Commission approved changing the zoning on 13.6 acres of the property from UAR-10 to 7.31 acres of light industrial and 6.29 acres of general commercial at their April 16 meeting.   • Police reserves put up new address numbers

    Sisters police reserves are pitching in to make sure residences and businesses in sisters have correct address numbers. The officers in the not-for-profit organization will go door to door starting Monday, April 28, offering to put up correct address numbers. According to Sisters police officer Todd Williver, the numbers will be of one size and style that conforms to city code requirements.     Controversy still seethes over a revised school calendar for Sisters students next year, and whether eighth graders will attend the middle/high school or return to the administration campus as part of a reconfigured 6-8 middl e school.
