  • Sisters gets an Earth Day cleanup

    Volunteers from throughout the Sisters Country gathered at the Sisters Fire Hall community room on Saturday morning to celebrate Earth Day and volunteer for one of six cleanup projects along Peterson Ridge and Whychus Creek Trails. Litter cleanup crews scavenged the forest for trash - including appliances. One group collected a refrigerator, a car radiator, a broken toilet and a mattress among piles of smaller litter.   • Board names school chief candidates

    The Sisters School Board has announced three candidates in the search for a new schools superintendent. On Sunday, the board announced that Dr. Tamara (Brook) MacNamara is a finalist for the position of Superintendent of the Sisters School District and has confirmed that she will participate in the finalist interviews scheduled for May 3 and 4.   • Sisters Jazz Quartet finishes on top

    The Sisters High School Jazz Quartet earned first place in the 48th annual Reno Jazz Festival, held April 23-25 at the campus of the University of Nevada. The festival featured performances by nearly 300 groups. Students Blake Henderson, Brett Pray, Trevor Ford and Tanner Smith performed in a division of 18 small groups from smaller schools attending the festival, including schools from San Rafael, Pebble Beach, Beaverton and Los Angeles.     The Department of Homeland Security announced this month that the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department has received a $115,485 grant dedicated to fire department operations and safety programs. The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants.   • C.O. Shootout returns to Sisters Country

    Some 330 golfers competed in the Eighth Annual Central Oregon Shootout this past weekend at Aspen Lakes, Black Butte Ranch and Eagle Crest Resort golf courses.     The Outlaws baseball team beat La Pine at home in five innings on Friday, April 23 with a final score of 11-1. Shane Groth hit an RBI single with a line drive up the middle to score Sisters' first run in the bottom of the second inning. Sisters racked up four more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead.   • Trail volunteers celebrate Earth Day

    About three dozen volunteers met at The Lodge at Suttle Lake to support Earth Day and work on the trail system on Thursday morning, April 22.     The boys tennis team beat the Madras White Buffaloes 6-2 at home at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, April 22. Sisters pulled out wins in four of their five three-set matches.     Bret Godfrey is bringing his Corvallis High School Jazz Choir to Camp Sherman to perform one last time. There is a $5 suggested donation. Funds raised at the performance support Camp Sherman's Black Butte School (BBS).     The boys golf team took first place at the Sweet Home Invitational Tournament, held at Mallard Creek, on Wednesday, April 21. Sisters finished with a team score of 331 for top-place honors. Junction City was eight strokes back at 339, and Tillamook placed third at 367. Sweet Home carded a 374, and Lebanon rounded out the scoring at 392.     Champion rower Bethanne Kronick achieved her goal of beating her last year's marathon record of 26.2 miles (42,195 meters) in 3 hours 25 minutes on an ergometer during a fundraising event at Sisters Athletic Club (SAC).
