Our dear, remarkable old Mom hung up her apron, cashed in her chips and headed to Heaven, where Dad was waiting with the bow of the boat on the beach. Former Sisters resident George Van Ry, featured in The Nugget on December 6, 2005, passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sunday, May 2, after a long battle with brain cancer. His family greatly appreciates the support he received from the Sisters community during his illness. He is survived by his father, Richard, his mother, Helen Condon and his brothers and sisters, Ian Condon, Heather Madden, Larissa Craig, Richard, Ian and Olivia Van Ry. Services were held in Utah.... This time of year I'm always on the lookout for an interesting, snow-free hike in the lower elevations. I found one. I had planned to hike the Burma Road from Smith Rock State Park and loop around behind Smith Rock and come back on the river route. Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputies seized eight horses and cited two women for animal neglect near Sisters on Monday, May 3. According to the sheriff's office, initial contact with the women was made on April 16 at a residence on Dea Dr. near Sisters after the sheriff's office received a report of possible animal neglect. Following up on suggested care on May 3, deputies reportedly found evidence that indicated the health of the animals was declining.
