A search and rescue party found Roger Perkins, 77, near his home northeast of Sisters after he apparently spent the night in the open May 8-9. Perkins' wife called sheriff's deputies at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, after disovering that her husband was not in the house. She had reportedly seen him last at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Larry Starling Dunn posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail while he awaits trial for the alleged attempted murder of his wife. Dunn, formerly a Black Butte Ranch police officer, was arrested at Crooked River Ranch on Saturday, February 13, following an incident in which he allegedly fired seven rounds from a .45 caliber handgun. Kindergarten registration and screening have been set for Friday, May 21, at Sisters Elementary School. Parents and school officials will make get youngsters registered to enter school for next September. Screeners will make sure children's immunizations are complete and the child is ready to start school. The Metolius River cleanup will kick off Saturday, May 15, at 9 a.m. at the Camp Sherman Store. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to wear hiking/work boots and bring gloves, a lunch and water, and a tool to pick up trash. The Kiwanis Club of Sisters last Thursday, May 6, presented a $2,500 check to Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation as the first half of a Kiwanis pledge of $5,000 to SOAR for 1998-99. In accepting the check from Kiwanis president Norm Scott, SOAR director Tom Coffield commented that the financial help was very timely as the SOAR staff is getting ready for a wide-ranging program of summer activities for youth and adults. Chuck Shepard of Coberg, Oregon recently purchased Hoodoo Ski Area for $1.6 million. Shepard is president of Umbrella Properties, Inc., a 25-year-old property development and management firm with 1,500 rental units in Eugene. According to Hoodoo office manager Dan Gruber, the sale was completed May 1, at the beginning of the company's fiscal year.
