The annual process of funding schools has begun in Sisters. A budget meeting was held on May 6, where the first draft of a budget was presented, followed by a school board meeting where the board began a discussion on whether to ask taxpayers for about $1.1 million in "local option" money (see story page 1). The girls tennis team traveled to Medford on Thursday and Friday, May 8-9 to compete in the district tournament. Although the Lady Outlaws did not place, the team performed well and had some very memorable moments. The biggest highlight for the Outlaw squad came in the quarterfinals. Jacquie Bryan and Marin Allen (No. 3 doubles) nearly upset the No. 2 seed, Annaliese Johnston and Jenna Mancino of Junction City (JC). Finals scores in the match were 7-5, 0-6, 7-6 (11-9 tiebreaker). The 2008 Sisters Starry Nights Benefit Concert Series wound up on Saturday evening with a performance by three-time Grammy winner, Keb' Mo'. The contemporary blues artist played a set that ranged from true blues to lighter ballads and a few folk tunes. He was joined onstage by five singers from the Sisters Middle School choir. Vickie Thatch, Felicia Zandonatti, Noel Chen, Beth Eckstine and Ciara Affatati added local flavor to the Joni Mitchell classic "Big Yellow Taxi."
