  • Golfers endure heartbreaker at District

    The Outlaw golfers suffered a huge setback on the first day of Capital Conference District competition on Monday, May 9. Scott Barton, who has led the Outlaw team all season, was disqualified for signing an incorrect score card. At the end of day one Sisters trailed second-place Molalla by 19 strokes.     Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL) is looking for new Friends to join the ranks of those willing to go the extra mile in support of their library system. The new library is shaping up on the former site of Sisters Middle School.   • Outlaws win Culver doubleheader

    The Outlaws defeated Culver 7-5 and 11-0 in a doubleheader on Friday, May 13. In the first game the Outlaws jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jeff Fitter and Jeff Sampson singled and Nate Jackson got a double. Culver came back in the second to tie the game 3-3. Sisters added a run in the third and held the lead the remainder of the game.     The Outlaws lost 5-3 to league leader North Marion on Wednesday, May 11. Sisters jumped out early in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Jeff Fitter singled and then Andy Burke got hit by a pitch, which put runners at first and second. Fitter later scored on a ground ball by Blake Poynor and Burke scored off a single by Jesse Stevens. The Huskies scored two runs on a two-out error in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. Both teams put another run on the scoreboard in the fourth to keep the game tied at 3-3.     Sisters defeated the Huskies 3-1 in softball at North Marions Wednesday, May 11. Sammy Stoneback pitched a one-hitter. “The only ball to leave the infield was a single in the fourth inning,” said Coach Doug McDonald. “Sam found her change-up and that was the key to keeping North Marion totally off balance. It was a phenomenal effort.” The Outlaws had 10 hits as a team with multiple hits from Katie Hughes and Courtney Overstreet. Hughes was 2-3 and Overstreet was 2-4 with two RBI.   • Coach will take dad’s former job

    Matt Craven, a math teacher and assistant track coach at Sisters High School for the past two years, will leave at the end of the school year to teach math and become the head track coach at Bend High School. It’s not just a routine career step for Craven. In Bend, he will be taking a coaching position held by his father, Mick, from 1978 to 2003.   • City looks for funds to pay for City Hall

    One way or another the City of Sisters is going to finance the construction of a new City Hall. Included in an estimated $12.9 million in expenditures this next fiscal year is a $2 million debt for the city hall, which the Urban Renewal Fund will carry. City Manager Eileen Stein has written other scenarios into the budget for this next fiscal year that could be played out in order to cover the cost of the new facility.     Senior Daniel Holloman jumped and ran his way to three individual titles at the Capital Conference District Track and Field Championships May 13 -14 at Sisters High School. In the process he helped his team finish a surprisingly close third in what was considered a rebuilding year for the boys.     Cary Rost and Conrad Kiefer were wed on April 20 in Jamaica. The bride is the daughter of Dale and Cindy Johnson of Sisters and Craig Babcock of Bend. She is an esthetician. The groom is the son of the late Charles Patrick Kiefer and Lindsay and Jayne Simmons of Sisters. He works as a firefighter for the Forest Service.
