Gregory William Hook pleaded guilty to Robbery in the second degree before Judge Alta Brady on Thursday, May 13. Hook was an 18--year--old Sisters High School student when he robbed the Sisters Pumphouse at knifepoint on Saturday, January 16. He will be sentenced on June 15, probably to two years in prison, according to Assistant District Attorney Patrick Flaherty. Students will have to show they can meet certain state standards to get passing grades and a diploma from Sisters schools in coming years. The Sisters School Board passed a resolution at their Monday, May 10, meeting directing school staff to spend the next 12 months in intensive planning to link grades and diplomas to state standards for the Certificate of Initial Mastery. Becki and Jim Neal are the grand marshals for the 59th Sisters Rodeo. Both of the Neals have been active in the Sisters Rodeo Association for the past 20 years. Becki's primary role was serving as parade chairperson for 15 of those years, ending with the 1997 parade. Jim was part of the work crew that helped build the present--day rodeo grounds. * * * To the Editor: On Wednesday evening, May 5, I inadvertently dropped my Veterans of Foreign Wars cap upon leaving a meeting at Sisters City Hall. I have checked with city hall on several occasions since and it has not been turned in to them, nor has it been turned in to the sheriff's office. I put an advertisement in The Nugget and have had no response. The cap is olive drab, with gold trim. It has the number 8138 on the right side, and has numerous pins attached. Three people escaped with broken bones and cuts and bruises from a head--on collision on Highway 20 west of Sisters Thursday, May 13. According to Oregon State Police reports, the accident occurred at about 11:15 a.m., when Roy Knight, 56, of Bend, attempted to turn his 1976 Plymouth van into the Suttle Lake resort area from the highway. He collided head--on with a 1992 Honda driven by Milton Serafin, 53, of Dallas, Oregon. The crash destroyed the front end of the Honda and totaled the van. The Honda's airbag deployed and,... The City of Sisters plans to hire Christopher Eck as a hearings officer for certain land use decisions. Eck, a Bend attorney, has served as a hearings officer for Deschutes County. The Sisters City Council agreed to the hiring at its Thursday, May 13, meeting. Eck will hear complex cases where a complicated decision must be rendered within a short timeframe. Local students will soon complete a two--year project studying Squaw Creek water issues. Students from the Sisters School District participated in a monitoring project to establish baseline information about the quality and quantity of water in Squaw Creek. Parents elected to the Sisters High School site council can now serve a maximum of two two--year terms. The site council, which serves as a community--staff advisory group for the high school, amended its bylaws to include term limits at its Wednesday, May 12, meeting.
