The Sisters City Council at their May 13 budget committee workshop discussed a request from the Sisters Business Attraction and Retention Team (SBART) to fund a part-time economic development director. Sisters-based nonprofit Ten Friends will hold their annual Spring Celebration fundraiser next week at Aspen Hall in Bend. The event is intended to raise awareness about current Ten Friends projects as well as thank the Sisters community for their continued support. The Ten Friends organization has made great progress in tackling some of Nepal's larger issues. Ben Fullhart (No. 1 singles) earned a fourth-place finish at the district tennis tournament in Medford on Monday and Tuesday, May 10-11. Jim Anderson will "show and tell" about his adventurous life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 22 at the Sisters Library Community Room. Fuels specialists plan to ignite an approximate 100-acre burn next to Black Butte Ranch and two miles north of Highway 20. As weather conditions permit, this prescribed burn project will occur no later than mid-week. This project is a first-entry underburn for hazardous fuels reduction and forest health. The newly completed Scout Camp Trail takes off from Crooked River Ranch and is VERY difficult. If you don't like steep terrain, cliff edges, and heights, you would be well advised to stay away from this one. There is even a spot where it is necessary to climb a vertical rock wall about eight feet high. That said, this short three-mile hike offers some of the best river canyon scenery in Central Oregon. Jeff Fought and Jonathan Standen both posted scores at district that earned them a berth to the state tournament. Yep, it's that time of the year again; bees are swarming and it's time to collect them - after all, freebees are hard to come by. For those beekeepers who are fortunate enough to have had a good survival over winter, early swarms are definitely good news.
