Donald “Don” James Cool of Camp Sherman died Wednesday. He was 82. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Chapel in the Pines in Camp Sherman. His ashes will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Mr. Cool was born June 21, 1922, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Joseph E. and Edna May (Howell) Cool. Peggy Parker of Sisters died on Saturday, April 2, of natural causes. She was 59. Services were held on Friday, April 8, in Bend. Peggy Parker was born on July 9, 1945, to Lloyd and Betty (Wilson) Milton, in Norfolk, Virginia. She worked as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration until 1999. She was affiliated with the Bend Church of the Nazarene. She volunteered with St. Charles Medical Center’s Side-by-Side group and with Sisters Starry Nights. Thanks to the hard work of a Sisters volunteer group, Hearts for Heroes, military men and women stationed in Iraq have been receiving small heart-shaped pillows, as well as other small gifts. The idea began last December when former Sisters area resident Pat Dunlop suggested small pillows should be made for servicemen and women stationed in Iraq. A Sunday night fire just north of Sisters completely destroyed a large storage building and four vehicles stored inside, causing a major loss estimated initially at $700,000. Cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire was located on the property of Howard Guinn, 15773 Trapper Point Road just off Camp Polk Road. Guinn stated that most of the loss is covered by insurance. First reports of the fire came at 9:45 p.m. when several Trapper Point Road neighbors called 911.
