Adele Joanne Welty McCready went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2012. Adele was born on March 18, 1939, in Salem, to Homer and Leona (Leisy) Welty and lived in Portland and Salem through her high school graduation. She moved to Santa Barbara, California for college, where she met and married the love of her life, James McCready on June 23, 1961. It's become a kind of seasonal migration pattern. On the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, hundreds of mountain bikers roll into Sisters and race the Peterson Ridge Trail in the Sisters Stampede. For the past three years, the Sisters School District has balanced million-dollar reductions in state funding against the need to maintain a "rainy-day fund" in case of emergencies. Most other school districts in the state used up their rainy-day funds years ago, and have been forced to make drastic cuts in days and teachers each of the last three years.
