  • When a helping hand isn’t

    Nesting season is upon us — that time of year when people often discover (allegedly) “abandoned” baby birds. Usually, however, the birds are not really in trouble until people get it into their heads they have to interfere. A robin (or any other songbird) discovered on the ground is best ignored. However, if you must meddle, pick it up and place it in the tree above it. Don’t worry about the scent business, the only bird around here that can smell anything is a turkey vulture... Full story

  • The Blaze was on fire in spring soccer

    The Sisters Blaze U-12 competitive soccer team went undefeated in spring soccer. The team won its last game 4-0 against the DAFC Cyclones. The Blaze had a great defense throughout spring league play, shutting out the last three game opponents anchored by Brennan Layne, Freddy Gonzalez, Cody Lane, Brett Prey and Scott Nelson. The best game of the spring league was a 1-0 victory against the Pumas, a traveling team from Madras. Taylor Steele scored the solo goal.   • Thunderstorms bring fire and rain to Sisters

    In Central Oregon a period of hot, humid weather usually ends with a thunderstorm and last week fit the pattern. Local storms started on Thursday, struck again on Friday and again on Saturday morning. The region escaped a Sunday storm that stayed west of the Cascades, particularly drenching the Willamette Valley. There, the storm resulted in hail the size of marbles, blew down trees and damaged power lines. During the several days of thunderstorms, lightning started 22 fires in Central Oregon.
