    In spite of dry forest conditions and recent lighting-caused fires, woodcutting season is open in the Sisters Country. But Allen Heath, Special Forest Products & Small Sales Officer for the Sisters Ranger District, is quick to remind woodcutters that until there is a good rain and cool-down, the forest is at Level 2 Fire Precaution conditions.   • I Heart Sisters campaign serves community

    The second annual I Heart Sisters event is scheduled for September 25. Sisters area churches will unite in working in and for the Sisters community. About 300 volunteers will work together to paint, build fences, weed planting beds, rake lawns, do handyman projects, collect food for the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank, prepare firewood and do other projects for the elderly and disabled, area veterans, local schools and city properties.   • Ranch event focuses on the arts

    Black Butte Ranch is a work of art itself - beautiful landscapes, views of the Three Sisters that look like a living painting. And art flourishes at the Ranch through its singular art organization: the Black Butte Ranch Art Guild.     The Outlaws suffered a devastating 56-14 loss to the Panthers at Central on Friday, September 3, in their first pre-season football game. Central was well prepared and emotionally charged for their first game. It seemed as if the entire town came out for the game and the christening of their brand new facility, complete with a turf field and covered stands with the capability to hold 1,500 spectators. The local club provides polio vaccines for children, book bags for elementary school children, swim instruction for third and fifth graders, scholarships for graduating Sisters High School seniors and more.     The Hackleman Creek Old-Growth Trail has a unique feature that is not shared by many trails in our area: it is wheelchair accessible. A significant portion of this trail system is hard-packed gravel and is specifically designed for wheelchairs.     A relay, a hill climb, and a half-marathon for women in the past week have provided a lot to report on about runners in the Sisters community. The annual Hood to Coast/Portland to Coast Relay held August 27-28 included some locals again this year. The "Willamette Dental" team, which included Sisters resident Sean Meissner, won the open-mixed category and finished ninth overall in a stellar time of 19 hours 55 minutes and 31 seconds for the 197-mile course.   • Sisters on road to scenic bikeway

    A dedicated group of Sisters community residents filed three "scenic bikeway" applications with the Oregon State Parks & Recreation Department. Word came down last week that those applications have been approved to move into the next steps in the process.
