    Halfway between Sisters and Bend is a small, discreet building flying an orange wind sock. The Cascade Flyers Model Airplane Club, with its internet-connected weather station and the adjacent grass landing strip on its 80 acres of open land framed by the snow-capped Cascades is arguably one of the most beautiful facilities for model airplane flying in the country.   • School budget climbs six percent

    The Sisters School Board has adopted a school budget for next year. At $13,184,972, the budget is $733,711 or about 6 percent more than last year's budget of $12,451,261 with essentially no increase in staffing. More than half of the increase goes to salary and benefits. The budget cuts contingency funds by more than half, from $269,366 in the current year to $112,000 next year. It also has no proposed ending fund balance or "cash carry over" for the following year, dropping that amount from $65,000 to zero. Board member... Full story
