Victoria Leason and John and Gert Leason, longtime residents of Sisters, are happy to announce the marriage of Tory Marie Leason to Jason Christopher Jaeger, son of Judy Jaeger and Russell Johnson, of the Condon area. The Green brothers — David, Christian and Jonathan along with Chuck Gibson — marched to victory in the Outlaw Open at Aspen Lakes Golf Course on Friday, June 16, but the real winners were young Sisters athletes in next years’ sports programs. Nicholas Patterson, 24, a Sisters High School graduate, will spend up to 20 years in the Oregon State Hospital after being found “guilty except for insanity” on July 13 in the arson fire that destroyed the Sisters McDonald’s during its construction in 2005. For thousands of Central Oregon teenagers, Memorial Day means a wild party weekend at Lake Billy Chinook. Thanks in part to TAPS (Think Again ParentS), this past holiday the usual “camping” party was a lot more subdued. In past years as many as 2,500 high school and college students have gathered at the lake. Law enforcement wrote hundreds of citations including many for underage drinking and possession of drugs. Sisters area residents are invited to a free concert of the Cascade Horizon Band on Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m. at Sisters High School. The band includes over 50 Central Oregon seniors in their 60s and 70s organized just three years ago as part of a national program. The band is a full concert band, playing jazz, swing, rock, Sousa marches, and specializing in the big band sounds of the 1930s and 1940s. An expanded art stroll brought people to Sisters to see artists at work, hear local musicians and enjoy the sunny evening last Saturday. Formerly organized by the Sisters Gallery Association, this year the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce organized the stroll and renamed it Saturday in Sisters. Some big changes will bring a new look to the 16th annual Sisters Jazz Festival this fall, according to Stephen Mills, chairman of the festival’s board of directors. Work crews have laid water and sewer lines and are finishing up electrical, cable and telephone trenches. By the end of this week they’ll be rough grading a new frontage road along Highway 20 at Sisters Inn & RV Park. Dave Elliott, who manages the motel and RV park, said the frontage road has yet to be named. It will serve four lots. The summer hiking season is here and Three Sisters Fellowship is once again offering group hiking opportunities for local residents. The dust has settled from the Sisters Rodeo and the statistics are in. Not for the bronc riders and tie-down ropers, but for another kind of athlete: the pancake flipper and the bacon slinger. Corey Lounsbury, son of Lynn and Trudy Lounsbury, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland on May 26. He received a B.S. degree in Ocean Engineering, and has been commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. He will report to Pensacola, Florida, in July to start flight training. Drivers in Sisters will have to keep alert for paving equipment on Sisters street over the next couple of weeks. A Deschutes County road crew will chip seal streets across the city, following the crack filling that was done in recent days. John Hayes is the new president of the Sisters Country Historical Society (SCHS). The historical society board of directors elected Hayes last week. Hayes, a local historian and writer, is a long time Sisters area resident. Author Jean Nave was elected Executive Director for the group. James W. Rimmer of Sisters died of cancer at 86. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Sisters Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration. Mr. Rimmer was born February 2, 1920 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, but spent much of his youth living and working in San Francisco. Kelly Peyton Warner, beloved wife of Kevin Warner, died June 15, at age 46. Kelly was born in Hood River, Oregon but moved to Portland at age three.
