CEC crews were able to switch around damaged equipment at the Black Butte Ranch substation at approximately 6:30 p.m. and restore electricity service to approximately 1,100 customers in the northern portions of Black Butte Ranch, Camp Sherman, Suttle Lake and other areas to the north. Central Electric Cooperative reports that the final 700 CEC members without power since 4 p.m. Monday as a result of outage on a portion of the utility's transmission system were restored to service at about 7:50 p.m. The accounts were in the Glaze Meadows and other southern portions of Black Butte Ranch. Deschutes County Health Services (DCHS) is opening a School Based Health Center (SBHC) in Sisters. The service, located in a modular across the street from Sisters High School, behind the football stands, is operated by DCHS. No school funds are used to support the center. The center provides health services such as physicals, sick care and immunizations to all children under 21 years old residing in the Sisters School District, regardless of ability to pay. Whychus Creek's largest irrigation diversion is getting an extreme makeover. As the end of this year's irrigation season draws near, the Three Sisters Irrigation District's (TSID) water conservation piping project is moving into its next phase. The Sisters High School Band is hosting the hard-hitting Joe Manis Funk Ensemble in concert this Friday, September 24, as a part of a fifth quarter event after the Outlaws home football game. The mule deer archery season had its ups and downs this year due to fire closures, which may have brought the hunters closer to town than usual. The Outlaws football team put one in the win column last week with a 14-6 victory over the White Buffaloes at Madras in a game that started on Friday, September 17, and finished on Saturday. With four minutes left in the second quarter, lightning forced the teams to leave the field. Last week, a black bear appeared in the southwest section of the City of Sisters, doing things that it should not have been doing. "I really don't know if it was the same bear that was in the park in Sisters," Steven George, wildlife biologist in the Bend ODFW office said, "but it was for sure knocking over garbage cans, and once that starts, there's no stopping it." Lightning strikes were deemed the culprit in a nine-hour power outage that struck Saturday night in the Indian Ford Ranch area off Camp Polk Road, affecting more than a half-dozen homes.
