The driver in a fatal single-vehicle wreck on Three Creek Road on Tuesday has been identified as Anthony Hartford, 32, of Sisters. According to Deschutes County Sheriffs Office reports, deputies and emergency personnel from the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire Department responded to Three Creek Road at 2:19 a.m. on a report of a single vehicle crash. "It's just so down-home Americana," said Terri Daniel as she strolled with her dog through Creekside City Park on Monday afternoon. And indeed it was. Cascade Avenue is the heart of downtown Sisters. Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) and the newly formed Sister's Science Club have partnered to bring a popular scientific exhibit to Sisters next spring. Brain Teasers 2 is an interactive exhibit at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. The exhibit consists of five stations with four sit-down puzzles at each station. The Sisters Recycle Depot will be open Friday through Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as operations are reduced from seven days to four days per week. Increased hauling costs for recyclable materials and cutbacks in Deschutes County financial support for recycling centers around the county led to the reduction. Sisters artist JoEllyn Loehr has a new audience for her bold, colorful abstract paintings. In an inspiring show of support, friends and family of Conrad Kiefer turned out for a benefit party at Hardtails Bar and Grill on Tuesday, June 28, for an evening of gratitude, food and music by Sisters' own Poor Man's Roses, and Animal and the Smokin' Aces. A proposal to pipe the 3.8-mile Uncle John ditch south of Sisters promises to bring better water service - and threatens a scenic feature on the popular Peterson Ridge Trail. Firefighters have checked forward progress of a fire burning three miles southwest of Sisters and have the blaze about 50 percent contained at approximately 11 acres.
