    David Jacobs-Strain will take the stage at Angeline’s Bakery on Saturday, July 15, during a Central Oregon stop on a national tour. Jacobs-Strain, who has appeared at the Sisters Folk Festival and opened for John Hiatt at a Sisters Starry Nights concert, has gained national acclaim for his powerful, blues-based guitar work. His CD release “An Ocean or a Teardrop” demonstrated that he also has a strong songwriting vision.   • The miracle of butterflies

    Hadley McCann's drop-dead gorgeous photo of the Western Tiger Swallowtail, Papilio rutulus, on the front page of last week's Nugget is worthy of further dialogue regarding butterflies. First, what you see in that lovely photo is the result of a great deal of hard work on old Mother Nature's part. Right off the bat, there had to be broad-leaved trees for the caterpillar to eat once the egg hatched and that plant must be free of chemicals.     Crystal, Kip, and KJ Sweet proudly announce the arrival of Kahlan Illyria Sweet. She was born on Saturday, July 1 at Providence Everett Medical Center, Everett, WA at 3:26 p.m. She weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and was 20-1/2 inches long. She is the granddaughter of Lisa Lee and Tony Lee of Sisters, and Brian and Dana Sweet of Fishers, Indiana.... Full story
