Law enforcement officials believe a small fire near Sisters on Friday was human-caused. According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday deputies responded to the 69400 block of Hinkle Butte Drive regarding a brush fire. Upon arrival, deputies noted a fire approximately one acre in size, burning slowly in an open field void of trees or structures. It may look like magic when 1,300 quilts go up on buildings all around downtown Sisters during the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, but it's not. It's the result of hours and hours of work by hundreds of volunteers, undergirded by support from event sponsors. According to Quilt Show Executive Director Ann Richardson, more than 500 volunteers did 715 different jobs and donated 2,500 hours to support the show. To the Editor: Three cheers and a big hurrah for the intrepid Red Crew of the Northwest Youth Corps who have been working on restoring the Black Butte Summit Trail. Holly (Greene) Gordon is fighting for her life. The 42-year-old registered nurse, who grew up in the Sisters Country, is battling advanced cancer. Her family and the entire Central Oregon community is rallying behind her in her battle, planning fundraisers and donations to help her family with medical bills. Holly went to school at Sisters elementary and middle schools, and graduated in 1987 from Redmond High School. She was heavily involved in athletics and 4-H, with a passion for horses. Starry Summer Night' featuring the acclaimed High Street Band is set for Friday, August 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters, to benefit the Sisters Schools Foundation. Trinkets and treasures of yesteryear were the featured attraction this weekend at the inaugural Sisters Antiques In The Park at Creekside City Park. Hayley Palmer did a lot of good running, learning, and community service during her four years at Sisters High School, and the Central Oregon Running Klub (CORK) acknowledged that by investing $500 toward Hayley's future in the form of the inaugural CORK Cross Country and Track Scholarship. Many local hikers have enjoyed parts of this trail system, but few have hiked it all at once.
