Multiple aircraft have been deployed to fight a 20-acre blaze off Fryrear Road in the vicinity of Cascade Estates Drive east of Sisters. According to Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch, numerous structure protection units have been dispatched to the area. The fire is 30 percent contained, with crews working to cut a bulldozer line around it. There is no word on a cause. Quick and intense attack by aircraft and ground crews quelled a fire off Fryrear Road east of Sisters on Monday evening - a blaze that could have been a real problem. Over a dozen marijuana-related permit applications have been received by the City of Sisters - mostly regarding retail sales establishments - despite the current temporary moratorium in effect in Sisters regarding the production, processing, and sales of marijuana within the city limits. August 30 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for filing completed and verified applications with the Deschutes County Recorder's Office in order to be on the ballot in November to run for Sisters City Council. Rod Jones has dedicated his life to kids, as teacher and educator, counselor, coach and parent. Jones taught health and physical education for 30 years, and coached multiple sports at the high school level, including volleyball. Jones retired from teaching in 2001, but kept coaching. Many local artists are creating something new out of something old to help support Sisters Habitat for Humanity during its first UpCycle Design Challenge fundraiser. The event takes place Saturday, August 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the ReStore, 254 W. Reggie was born in Long Beach, California. He had a life constantly in motion from his early years of many different schools and towns to his life in the Army. He traveled to Korea during the Vietnam era. He was a veteran. He had three children with his first wife: Jennifer (Kansas), Eric (Missouri) and Melissa (Missouri). Then he met his true love, Mary. Dudley and Patsy Wolford both peacefully passed in their home in Sisters. Dudley passed away on July 24 and Patsy on April 23. Both had an incredible and adventurous journey through life, and along the way touched many lives. Wealthy Mae Larson died on Sunday morning, July 24, at the home of her daughter, Linda Brooksby Lounsbury, in Sisters. Her four children: Linda, Sue, Dave and Jeff were with her. She lived to the age of 99 years. Mae was born on May 23, 1917, in Samaria, Idaho, to Henry Waldemar and Wealthy May Gibbons Andersen. Her parents, homesteaders in Idaho at the time of her birth, were affected by the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919, so they could not harvest their crops to make the payment... Full story
