It came to The Nugget's attention last week that another Central Oregon publication, in a story on Sisters' last city council election, misrepresented The Nugget's role in a hard-fought, heavy-spending campaign. The story, dated July 9, 2009, was recently linked from the Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) Web site page advertising the position of economic development manager in Sisters, which made the error current. Cascade Business News (CBN) contributing editor Daniel Pearson reported on contributions made... Full story
To the Editor: I would like to respond to Bill Kemp's letter to the editor published on July 14, which comments on past decisions made by the board of directors of the Sisters Park & Recreation District. Mr. Kemp is correct that the board of directors of the Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) made a decision to downsize the district's operations in August 2009 in response to its negative cash flow situation and accumulated debt from the prior year's operating loss. The board's suspension of a program in the downsizing... Full story

In a 3-0 vote last Wednesday the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners voted in the provisions and amendment that allow Aspen Lakes Golf Course and Lodge to remain on the county destination resort map. This ruling on mapping should conclude the first of the two steps required for Aspen Lakes' conversion to destination resort status - an effort that has been intensely controversial. The second step, and by all accounts the far more difficult task, will be for Aspen Lakes to be "sited." The commissioners and many planners... Full story
