  • Man cited in injury wreck on Highway 20

  • Judge rules against plaintiffs in lawsuit

    Two homeowners in Eagle Air Estates have lost all claims they made against the developer of the subdivision and the homeowners association. Plaintiffs Michael and Janet Morgan and Cydnie Harp went to court against Vernon and Sandra Goodsell and Eagle Air Estates Homeowners Association in April.   • Plans move forward for Sisters couplet

    As summer traffic jams annoy travelers and challenge local drivers' skill at maneuvering across town, the City of Sisters is moving ahead with plans to create a couplet running on Hood and Main avenues.     Two local 4-H livestock clubs and a sewing club fielded nearly 50 entries at the Deschutes County Fair, held last week in Redmond. Sisters young people entered sheep, swine, goats and sewing projects in the fair. Cloverdale Livestock Club has 29 members, many from Sisters, with the rest living in Redmond. Leader Pam Mitchell, who has headed the club for 18 years, said the club is the largest it's ever been during her time as leader.     Local community groups are scrambling to save the Head Start classroom that was closed down in the face of budget cuts last month. Tom Coffield, director of SOAR (Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation) offered classroom space for the early childhood development program, charging only for utilities. Competing in the Masters 5,000-meter Open Water National Championships, held the last weekend in July, Landis took first place in the 60-64 age group with a winning time of 1:12:58. Thirteen states sent over 150 swimmers to the competition with Virginia being the furthest state competing in the championship weekend.     The sewer line to the new Sisters High School is installed and hooked up, but it is not yet operable, according to Gary Frazee, public works director for the City of Sisters. "We have to wait for the completion of McKinney Butte Road from Highway 20 to the school property before we can certify the sewer line," he said. "We expect no problems."     Two recent Sisters High School graduates and an incoming freshman have been awarded honorary scholarships by the Sisters Jazz Festival as part of the Festival's commitment to youth education projects. Graduates Angie Zandonatti and Benjamin Scharf were recognized for their ongoing participation in the arts. Zandonatti, who designed the Sisters Jazz Festival logo, will study graphic arts at Brigham Young University, entering that program this fall. Due to budgetary restraints, the COCC local office closed operations in Sisters this past June. Community Education classes will still be offered locally. The state shoot is one of the largest competitions on the West Coast. Thirteen states were represented by a total of 245 registered shooters.
