The rest of Oregon now knows what many folks in Sisters have known for quite a while: Jen's Garden is one of the very best restaurants in Oregon. Even with all the pressure to win, TR chose to keep the... Full story
Jefferson County has stepped into the growing line-up of those who don't like the way the City of Sisters does business. SB 30 subsequently died in committee after a veto threat by Governor Ted Kulongoski. Then on June 26, the City of Sisters sent a letter to the governor expressing concerns about the im... Full story

To the Editor: It looks like a small group of Realtors and builders, aided by the editorial inclinations of The Nugget, are ganging up on the city council and city government. In two parallel stories at the end of July, city leadership and the processing time for applications and systems development fees were called into question. Last week, conflict of interest charges were raised. There was also a fatuous comment that city government is no different from any retail business in that it needs to provide good service to its... The art of beading, like quilting, becomes a passion. An awareness of this passion prompted Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce Events Director Jeri Buckmann four years ago to incorporate a handcrafted bead show into the attractions the Sisters Chamber sponsors each summer. The event attracted hundreds to Barclay Square in the center of town last Saturday and Sunday. "I wanted to do something different that is not in Central Oregon - or actually anywhere that I know of," Buckmann... Full story

There is a 2003-vintage Mars e-mail hoax making the rounds again. It claims that on August 27, THIS YEAR Mars will be so close to Earth that it will "look as large as the moon." Not so! If Mars were that close we would crash into it or be infected with "Mars Fever." Edgar Rice Burroughs had Mars Fever for years when he wrote "A Princess of Mars," his first fantasy about the Red Planet. Then, he followed that with "John Carter of Mars" and "The Gods of Mars." It's a wonder he didn't arrange for Tarzan of the Apes to visit... Full story
