  • Letters to the Editor 09/10/2014

    Updated Sep 9, 2014

To the Editor: Another wonderful folk music festival is over. As usual, we thoroughly enjoyed the music and ambience of the festival. The FivePine venue was especially nice Sunday afternoon, with butterflies and dragonflies flitting around, and the sound of the brook babbling in the background. We also appreciate the helpfulness and kindness shown to people with mobility problems. It was so nice to avoid the huge crowds and be seated easily. Thank you to all the staff, the board, and the wonderful volunteers who keep making... Full story

  • Working with TUPs, quilts and visitors

    Bruce Rognlien|Updated Sep 9, 2014

I would like to take the Temporary Use Permit (TUP) decision in a new direction. I want to discuss the entire Quilt Show day in terms of what provides the "best visitor experience." As far as the TUP is concerned, I have two thoughts: First, does the "tent city" add business to the city retailers or intercept their business? It appears on the surface to intercept business, which is not fair to the local merchants - but we really don't know the sales numbers. Secondly, does it meet the Quilt Show "look and feel" that they... Full story
