Steven Gage pleaded not guilty on Monday, September 11 to charges that he had sex with girls in his care when he operated Royal Haven Equestrian Center for Girls, according to Deschutes County District Attorney Mike Dugan. The approximately 700 people who pay water bills in the City of Sisters got a bit of a shock when they opened their August statement. After discovering that the city had under-billed for water usage from May through July, city accountants adjusted the bill in August, creating a surprising jump in the billing amount. Sheriff's deputies arrested Elizabeth and James Dennis of Sisters for third degree assault on September 4, after a dispute over possession of some clothing allegedly turned physical. According to sheriff's office reports, a woman and her 14-year-old sister went to the Dennis residence in Sisters to exchange a pair of pants for a pair of boots after arguing over the items on the phone. A month after a majority of the Sisters City Council voted to allow "park model" trailers to occupy 12 to 16 spaces at Mountain Shadow RV Park, councilors are having second thoughts. Over 3,000 people will converge on Sisters this weekend to attend the 10th annual High Mountains Jazz at Sisters festival. The event kicks off Thursday, September 14, at 7 p.m. with an "early bird" concert at the Mountain Shadow RV Park. The 2000 Sisters Folk Festival was such a big success that latecomers had to be turned away on Saturday night, September 9, for want of room.
