Rodney Allen Stambaugh of Sisters was cited in connection with an alleged hit and run accident on Highway 20 on Monday, September 6. Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a hit and run on Highway 20 at about milepost 95 on Monday afternoon. According to sheriff's office reports, a deputy found a Jeep on the roadside with its hood up. For the first time since the passage of Measure 5 in 1991, Sisters schools can go to the voters for operating funds. The school board is reluctant to do so, even though the district has some serious funding needs. Giant Russian visits Sisters One of the largest bi-planes in the world, an Anotov AN-2, lumbered into Sisters Eagle Air on Thursday, September 16. The plane, owned by the Lundgren family of Camp Sherman, was just stopping over on its way to final display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. The plane was piloted by Shane Lundgren, who flew the craft from Maine to Sisters. Shane is a pilot with Air Berlin, an airline the family owns in Europe. Blaze quickly slapped down A hot-burning fire just outside of Sisters was quickly slapped down by a multi-agency attack on Wednesday, September 15. The"human-caused" fire was called in at 3:43 p.m., according to Wayne Rowe with the Oregon Department of Forestry in Sisters. Fire conditions are extreme. In the initial attack, ODF responded with three engines and five people; Sisters/Camp Sherman RFPD sent five engines and eight firefighters; the Forest Service had four engines, and seven firefighters at the scene. The developers of the proposed Barclay Meadows business park along Camp Polk Road want Sisters voters to annex the property into the City of Sisters. An annexation election will be held in November. Sisters schools have 33 more students than they had last year. Sisters Elementary grew by 16 students to a population of 447; the middle school added four students and Sisters High School grew by 13 students for a total of 429. The total number of students as of last week was 1,150.
