    The long arm of the law reached across the continent and decades to slap the handcuffs on Vickey Babbitt of Sisters last week. The 58-year-old Sisters woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with the 1972 murder of her then-husband, Marine William "Bill" Miller.   • Lost hiker found in Camp Sherman

    Searchers found a 53-year-old Camp Sherman woman hypothermic and disoriented last week after she spent most of a cold night in the woods near her home. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Bruce Byerly called police shortly after midnight on Wednesday, September 10, after he came home and was unable to find his wife. All of Victoria Hall's personal belongings and her car were at home, leading deputies and her husband to believe she had left for a hike.     Sisters Country residents will get an opportunity to hear about the backgrounds and platforms of the five candidates running for the three open Sisters City Council seats on October 13.     I'm writing one more time regarding the possible acceptance of HCD as an outside source for our refuse pickup. I was disappointed to see such a small crowd at the presentation last week. However, many of the folks I had contacted in advance, and several I spoke to at the meeting, all felt the city council had already made its decision.     The Sisters Knights of Columbus Roundtable will host a community Oktoberfest event on Saturday, September 27, at The Pines Clubhouse.     Marin Allen scored a three-goal "hat trick" to lead the Lady Outlaws soccer team to a 9-0 shutout at home against La Pine on Thursday, September 11. Allen took a cross from McKenzie Cooper at the seven-minute mark for Sisters' first goal. Allen's shot was from 10 yards out and landed just to the left of the keeper.     • A cyclist ran into a car at the intersection if Barclay Drive and Highway 20. The vehicle was damaged and the bike didn't fare too well either, but the cyclist wasn't badly hurt. • Things went from bad to worse for a 21-year-old driver who was stopped for failing to obey a traffic control device.     The Outlaws boys soccer team lost 4-3 at home in a non-league game against Central on Saturday, September 13. The Panthers are ranked No. 3 in the state and proved to be a tough opponent.     When you're looking for a good solid hike but you're not up for an all out, all day adventure, the Matthieu Lakes trail is an excellent choice. This six-mile loop sits just on the Sisters side of McKenzie Pass. The Forest Service lists it as an "easy" hike, but it's really closer to "moderate."
