An unusual enterovirus called EV-D68 that has caused severe respiratory illnesses in children in the Midwest and about 10 other states may have arrived in Central Oregon. Over the last week, St. Charles Bend has treated at least two children with severe respiratory illnesses, one of whom tested positive for possible human rhinovirus or enterovirus. As one of the largest private employers in Sisters, I have found that the outstanding quality of our schools is an important factor in recruiting and retaining exceptional employees. The persistent complaints from some might lead one to conclude the proposed paved trail from Sisters to Black Butte Ranch is bad for our community. Nothing is further from the truth. The trail is simply a way of making our National Forest accessible to everyone, especially those too young to ride in traffic or unable to walk on uneven dirt. A home-grown Central Oregon woman, Mikaela Koellermeier, was crowned the 2015 Queen of Sisters Rodeo on Sunday, September 21. She will represent the rodeo in its 75th anniversary year. Sisters School District's transportation department took on the Ice Bucket Challenge to fight ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) - then they turned around and passed the challenge to the elementary school teachers. The road into Camp Sherman is a blaze of fall color just now. But for visitors who turned down past the Black Butte School last weekend, an eyeful of silver met them as they passed by Hoodoo's Camp Sherman Resort. Barefoot in the Belfry nail salon, owned and operated by Tracy Streeter Foteff, just found a new home and a new name. The unique nail salon has relocated to 110 S. In a lightly attended town hall meeting Wednesday, Superintendent Jim Golden explained the key reasons that the board is seeking a $14.5 million bond in November.
