    Sisters will move to a 4A classification and become part of the Sky Em League if the OSSA (Oregon School Activities Association) Executive Board approves the Classification and Districting Committee’s final recommendation. The Classification and Districting Committee for 2006-2010 met on September 26 to make its final recommendation.   • Engineer presents water system plan

    HGE Inc. of Coos Bay has filed its preliminary master plan for Sisters’ water system improvements. According to City Manager Eileen Stein, the engineer’s plan was turned in last week. The firm is suggesting that Sisters drill another well and make improvements to the two existing wells in the short term. A long-term recommendation is to build a second city reservoir.   • Tickets limited for SOAR Cowpie Bingo

    Tickets are expected to go fast for the SOAR Foundations’ 2nd Annual Cow Pie Bingo event. Tickets are now on sale in Sisters at the SOAR office (Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation). The bingo game will be held on Friday, October 21, at the Sisters football field. At 3:30 p.m., Gomez the steer will be turned loose on a giant bingo board painted on the football field. The event will conclude when Gomez “creates” a cow pie in one of the bingo squares.   • Scholastic Book Fair set at elementary school

    Dragons, dinosaurs and dogs will be telling their stories through books at Sisters Elementary School beginning October 11. The school is hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair with proceeds going toward the fourth grade spring field trip. Fourth graders will spend most of this year learning about the history of Oregon. In May they will culminate their studies with an overnight trip to Fort Vancouver, the state Capitol in Salem and the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.     Award-winning Sisters songwriter Dennis McGregor is hitting the road this week for a two-week tour in California. McGregor, who won the 2004 Sisters Folk Festival Songwriting Contest and has been a fixture on the local music scene for years, is taking advantage of some personal travel time to expand his musical horizons. “It all started with an invitation to a friend’s wedding in Santa Barbara,” he said.   • City of Sisters eyes sewer plant expansion

    Sisters is in a race to keep up with growth and the city’s sewer system is no exception. The municipal waste treatment facility at the south end of town is expected to reach capacity in about three years. The city hopes to expand the system’s capacity by then. City Manager Eileen Stein said she hopes the city can get greater capacity without actually expanding the size of the treatment plant.   • Fire department opens burning season

    Outdoor debris burning within the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District and the Cloverdale Rural Fire Protection Districts opened Tuesday morning, October 4. Recent rain and cool weather has decreased the risk of major wildfires, according to fire department officials. Residents desiring to burn must have on file a burn permit, obtainable at any district fire station. Campfires are allowed year-round, but must also have a permit.   • Deer hunters did well in the Metolius

    The weather was almost prefect for opening day of mule deer hunting season around Sisters and, in spite of the diseases that smacked the mule deer last winter, the count was up. According to Clair Kunkel, biologist with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), most of the hunters followed the rules of engagement, which brought about a 17 percent hunter success in the Southeast Metolius Unit.
