Sisters District Ranger Bill Anthony announced to Forest Service staff on Wednesday that December 31 will be his last day as Sisters District Ranger. Anthony has led the local district for the past 14 years. The Sisters arts community has often rallied to protect and enhance the spectacular rivers that run through Sisters Country. Now, quilters are throwing in a stitch to help the cause. To the Editor: Deschutes County is in danger of losing its only nonprofit, true no-kill cat/kitten rescue sanctuary....CRAFT (Cat Rescue Adoption and Foster Team). The need for services has escalated for several years due to the poor economy and abandoned pets, many irresponsible pet owners, while funding has lagged. CRAFT is the only group that responds to calls from 911, law enforcement and other agencies when rescue/trapping needs to be done. In the past four years, CRAFT has cared for almost 4,000 animals. Skating enthusiasts in Sisters are well on their way to creating a skate park in town. The Sisters Skate Park Committee, in partnership with Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD), has received a $10,000 Tony Hawk Grant. Lynn Barclay is calling it a career after nearly 32 years providing children's clothing and toys at Rainbow Connection. More than three decades ago, her sister-in-law Susan Busic "went back east and saw this really cute store," Barclay recalled. The Outlaws' soccer team trounced the Huskies at Sweet Home in a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday, October 4, and turned around two days later to cruise with ease to a 7-2 win at home against Elmira. In Tuesday's game, the Outlaws racked up six goals in the first half to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Sisters jumped out quick with a goal from Sebastain Boehm at the three-minute mark. For a time it appeared that roundabouts in Sisters were a dead issue. Then, last week, ODOT Director Matt Garrett approached Mayor Lon Kellstrom and City Manager Eileen Stein directly, offering to personally facilitate discussions between the City of Sisters and the freight industry in an attempt to come to an agreement on the use of roundabouts on Highway 20 through town. The Outlaws football team outscored Elmira 18-13 in the second half of Friday's football game in a strong offensive effort, but it just wasn't enough to make up the deficit from the first half. Sisters Middle School student Patience O'Neal recently received a scholarship designed to further her equestrian ambitions. The annual Paul Mariman Invitational in Philomath serves as a measuring stick for many 4A cross-country teams, since it resembles the state meet in size - and often in quality. The biomass boiler at Sisters High School will be officially brought on-line during Governor John Kitzhaber's visit to Sisters High School on Monday, October 17 at 2 p.m. The new biomass boiler will burn pellets made from wood scrap (tops, limbs, etc.) to preheat the supply water for the existing diesel and propane systems. A man and a woman were both cited in the wake of a domestic dispute. A woman reported her wallet stolen from her vehicle in Sisters. A landlord reported damage to a rental property after renters moved out. The landlord had been urged by his insurance company to make a report, though he did not believe it to be a criminal act.
