  • Beware of aggressive deer

    Updated Oct 23, 2018

It's an increasingly common story in Sisters - and across North America: Urban deer populations that have become accustomed to human presence can sometimes turn aggressive. Last week, a local resident contacted The Nugget to report that a small dog was attacked by a big doe near the Tamarack Apartments at the north end of town. There are a great many deer in town, and they think nothing of hanging out in the yards of homes and businesses. Also last week, a woman posted on... Full story

  • Letters to the Editor 10/24/2018

    Updated Oct 23, 2018

To the Editor: The October 10 Nugget featured an article entitled, "Fire crews quell fast-moving blaze." A fire in the area of Sno Cap Lane and Vista Ridge Drive came dangerously close to destroying many homes. However, it was stopped by, "quick and heavy response enabled fire crews." What's the lesson? Quick responses from firefighters and putting the fires out immediately saves lives, property and minimizes the impact of smoke. It's a lesson we should be applying throughout the Sisters-Bend-Redmond area! Unfortunately,... Full story

  • The right person for the job

    Jeff Mackey|Updated Oct 23, 2018

Donald J. Trump is the right person for the job. When I look back to the Reagan years when Chrysler was failing, a businessman named Lee Iacocca worked his genius and turned it around. He was a blunt-spoken, aggressive, and results-oriented individual with a wealth of experience. Reagan and numerous political leaders plus other senior business leaders sought his counsel on budget deficits, military spending, industrial policy, unemployment, job training, and foreign trade. I can even remember bumper stickers touting "Lee Iaco... Full story

Nathan Woodworth of Sisters drew accolades from L.A. Times theater critic Daryl H. Miller for a "riveting" performance in the Actors' Gang's presentation of "Johnny Got His Gun." The theater company's artistic director is renowned actor Tim Robbins, who directs the play. "Johnny Got His Gun" is based on the powerful and bleak anti-war novel of the same title, written by Dalton Trumbo and published in 1939. Many high school literature classes assign the novel. The story focuses... Full story

Certainly, there are aspects of our physical environment that are essential to emotional wellness as in safety and security. Additionally, however, our tendency to accumulate, update, and keep up with trends, can be... Full story
