    An amazingly caring and loving man, Mike will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and his many co-workers throughout the water utility industry. His love of life was demonstrated continually by his passions for the wilderness; he sailed, skied, hiked and climbed until his illness made him hang up his gear. Mike will be remembered for working hard, always being active, always being thoughtful, kind, and his love of the environment. A memorial service was held October 29 in Portland.   • Sisters Fire Chief announces retirement

    Sisters Fire Chief Taylor Robertson is hanging up his turnout gear. "I will retire from PERS (Public Employees Retirement System) the 1st of December 2011," Robertson told The Nugget last week. "The (fire district) board has signed a contract for me to work till the 1st of June on an interim basis while they hire a new fire chief."     Two teams from Sisters failed to get traction at the Chump Car World Series race in Portland over Halloween weekend.     Students at Black Butte School experienced the resounding boom of a Civil War-era musket on Friday as five members the Northwest Civil War Council, representing the 69th New York Infantry (the Irish Brigade) visited the school.     Sisters' girls soccer team wasn't satisfied simply to win this season. They crushed their opponents, one after another in back-to-back-to-back shutouts. The domination continued last week as the Lady Outlaws wrapped up league play and claim their second consecutive Sky-Em league title with shutouts over Sweet Home and Elmira.     The Outlaws football team lost 39-19 to the Huskies at Sweet Home on Friday, October 28, in the final league game of the season. Coach Clyde Powell said, "It kind of felt like the Spartans at Thermopylae. We were good soldiers but just got overwhelmed." Weather conditions were relentless and teams played in a downpour.     The girls JV soccer squad wrapped up their stellar season with a home victory over Sweet Home to finish undefeated in league at 8-0. Sisters' only loss was to Summit in pre-season play. Over the course of the season the Lady Outlaws scored 63 goals and only allowed six goals to be scored against them in league.
