Voters firmly rejected the Sisters School District's request for $14.5 million in bond funding for facilities repair and maintenance and technology purchases. The measure went down in the November 4 election by a margin of 56 percent to 44 percent. On the Wednesday after the election, the school board surveyed the aftermath and reflected on possible next steps. The Outlaws overcame big-game nerves to beat Banks and claim the crown at the 4A State Championships held at Lane Community College, Friday and Saturday, November 7-8. Sisters battled to a 3-0 sweep over the Braves in the championship game with scores of 26-24, 25-19, and 25-16. The election for Sisters City Council on November 4 unseated incumbent mayor Brad Boyd and returned two incumbents. Newcomer Nancy Connolly was the top vote-getter and will serve for four years. The Outlaws battled hard against No. 1 ranked Gladstone, but came up short on the scoreboard. The Outlaws were defeated 21-10 by the Gladiators on Friday, November 7, in the first round of the state playoffs. The Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD has handed over the keys to a reserve ambulance to the Sisters School District for use in the high school's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Fire Science program. The ambulance was surplus to the district's needs and will provide the students an opportunity to simulate treating injured patients in a realistic environment. In a 5-0 vote Wednesday, the school board voted to deny local resident Mike Morgan's request to waive the Oregon State Supreme Court judgment that he should reimburse the district for the $500 supreme court filing fee in the case of Morgan vs. Sisters School District. Don Chelew passed away on October 27, in his home with his wife, Barbara, at his side. Don was born in Los Angeles of Canadian parents. He was the oldest of three children, and is predeceased by his parents, Ola and George; his sister, Caroline; and his brother, Bob. He attended Hamilton High School and graduated from UCLA. Julie lost her battle with lung cancer on November 4, at home, with her son Richard, his wife, Dee, and friend Allen at her side. Born in Connecticut and raised in New York, Julie moved to Napa, California where she co-owned Julie's Recess with Vince Ferriole and Ellie Pasche, and also Vince's restaurant.
