    After months of heated wrangling, guest editorials, letters to the editor and confusion over costs and process, advocates and critics of a proposed paved trail project in Sisters Country got together in the same room to hash things out.   • Watch out for deer on Sisters roads

    November is a dangerous month for deer and drivers on Sisters Country highways. Oregon State Police (OSP), Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) urge motorists to be on alert while traveling for more wildlife on or along our highways at this time of the year. John Huffman has scheduled the next, and probably the last, meeting of his Metolius TDO workgroup for Monday, November 18, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Madras City Council Chambers in Madras City Hall. The purpose of this workgroup is to pursue placement of the former Metolius resort development in Deschutes County.   • Chinese teachers arrive in Sisters

    With the arrival of the Chinese ambassadors and teachers Vivian Zhang and Eva Xu, Sisters schools have taken the next step in an ongoing cultural exchange between Chinese educators and students and Sisters schools. These two young educators will be teaching Mandarin language classes and Chinese culture classes at all three Sisters schools.     Brittany Baldessari took to the water when she was a toddler and started swimming at a competitive level when she was 7 years old. She has years of experience under her belt and was a perfect choice as Sisters High School's new head swim coach.     For the third straight year, Jake McAllister is the Sky-Em Player of the Year. He was also named first-team all-league for the third year in a row.   • Kronick brings rowing gold to Camp Sherman

    Camp Sherman resident Bethanne Kronick returned from the Head of the Charles Rowing Regatta in Boston last month with a gold medal in the mixed quad rowing competition. The Head of the Charles is the largest international race of its kind. Over 9,000 competitors and 350,000 spectators from all over the world descended on Boston for this annual event. They will host an open house from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 15, and some sales and discounts will be continued through the weekend.     The 6th-grade team played seven matches this season, competing against the Bend middle schools (Sky View, Cascade, Pilot Butte, High Desert). Each match was the best of three sets (two sets to 25 and one set to 15). The Outlaws went undefeated, never losing a match, and only lost two sets the entire season.     The boys soccer team beat North Marion (NM) in sudden death in an action-packed first-round state playoff game at home on Tuesday, November 5. Fans hugged the sidelines and cheered on the Outlaws in a contest that was a nail-biter to the very end. Jake McAllister got the Outlaws on the scoreboard at the 20-minute mark. McAllister beat a pack of Husky defenders for a close-range goal past the keeper off the right side.     The girls volleyball team finished third at the state volleyball tournament held at Lane Community College on Friday and Saturday, November 8-9. Crook County took championship honors, Cascade was runner-up. Ridgeview took fourth and Hidden Valley finished fifth.     The Lady Outlaws matched up against Klamath Union (KU) at home in Sisters on Tuesday, November 5, in the first round of the state playoffs.     After searching for over a year to find a new Nordic (cross country) ski coach for Sisters High School (SHS), a former SHS student has filled the position. Kelly Crowther, a 2008 SHS graduate and 2012 University of Utah graduate will replace Tom Blust as head coach of the SHS Nordic ski team.
