  • Coast Guard veteran visits classroom

    Sisters first graders learned a little bit about Veterans Day and the American flag from Coast Guard veteran Leonard Knott of Sisters. Knott visited with first graders on Thursday, November 10. The students shared their understanding of holidays and learned a bit about the reasons behind Veterans Day.   • JV volleyball team had a stellar season

    The Sisters High School JV volleyball team lost only one match this season and that was to the Stayton Eagles early in the season.   • Painter’s business covers the coast

    Little did Kerry Borsch know when he went to apply for a teaching job 25 years ago that he’d leave the school with a new profession. An administrator there said her husband was looking for help with his house painting business, so Borsch thought he’d try it. The painter turned out to be a master of the craft, with the highest standards. Borsch learned to paint interiors, exteriors and finish woodwork the old-fashioned way.   • SOAR offers holiday programs for kids

    SOAR (Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation) District has a variety of recreation and day-care programs for kids of all ages during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The SOAR Community Center will be open weekdays during the holidays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. During Thanksgiving break SOAR will be open November 21-23. During Christmas break the center will be open December 19-23 and December 27-30.   • Theater prepares for ‘blockbuster’ season

    As the holiday season approaches, movies move into their “blockbuster” season. Sisters Movie House is bringing some of those blockbusters to Sisters this month. The lineup of big movies will begin on November 18 with “Harry Potter” and “Walk the Line,” a bio-pic featuring Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash. The rousing musical “Rent” will follow on November 23 and “Chronicles of Narnia” will arrive on December 9, followed by Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” on December 14.   • Starry Nights Series planning ninth season

    The Sisters Starry Nights Benefit Concert Series will return for its ninth season with two shows in 2006.   • Sisters Blaze wraps up a long season

    The Sisters Blaze U-12 traveling soccer team was fired up on Sunday, November 13, as they took on the Lake Oswego Rangers in the final game of a season that started back in June. The team was led by by Head Coach Doug Early and Manager Shawn O’Hern. The Sisters Blaze battled the Rangers to a scoreless tie at the end of regulation play.   • Box turtle business

    If you lost a box turtle, Debbie Willitts and her children, Sean and Gabriel, found it. The turtle was wandering along the banks of Wychus (Squaw) Creek. If someone turned it loose because they felt sorry for it in captivity, or got tired of caring for it, that was a really big “no, no.” Box turtles are not native to Central Oregon; therefore, if the Willitts children hadn’t found the turtle there’s a good chance it would never have made it though the winter.   • Sisters pays tribute to veterans

    Sisters Middle School was decked out in red, white and blue as students and staff welcomed Sisters area veterans for an hour-long tribute on Thursday, November 10. Local Boy Scouts posted the colors as activities director Mim Burke (who has two sons in the U.S. Army) and class president Zander Albertson welcomed the veterans to the program: “Today it is our privilege to say thank you to all veterans,” Burke said.
