Sisters Elementary School principal Tim Comfort and his staff are trying to figure out what to do with a suddenly booming population of kindergartners. There are 67 students enrolled as of this month, according to Comfort, up from 57 last year at this time. "It looks like we've rebounded from our low of 45 two years ago," Comfort noted. Solie said that it did not appear that any attempt was made to get into the cash register and no money was taken. Solie said very little cash is kept on the premises.... Full story

Rural Utilities has already loaned the city $3 million and granted more than $2 million. The city needs approximately $5.5 million more to fund the sewer. The city can borrow some of that total,... * * * To the Editor: I read the article pertaining to the growth of Sisters in relation to the sewer grant ("Growth could threaten sewer grants," The Nugget, October 27, p. 1) and I had to laugh. With all the promotion for tourism to Sisters and these high-dollar developers, what did they expect? Their proverbial nose is being cut off to spite their face. The people in positions of "importance and power" have no one to blame but themselves. Low- to moderate-income people are the ones who helped build Sisters and now it seems... Full story
The Lady Outlaws volleyball team went to the state tournament in Corvallis last week with high hopes, but they returned without a trophy. The girls finished ninth out of 16 teams after losing to Lakeview and Rainier. The finish was a disappointment to the Capital Conference champions, who had their eyes on the prize. "I think we were really set for number one, though we were going to take state one step at a time," said senior co-captain Anna Summerfield. The Lady Outlaws... Full story
