Sisters schools closed both Thursday and Friday due to weather conditions. Snowplow crews in the city of Sisters were at work as early as 1 a.m., but they struggled to keep pace with snow that fell thick and fast. Some rural subdivisions saw... Full story

Vickie Herring has a passion for horses. "I grew up in Philomath, Oregon, and was riding horses since I could walk," she recalled. "My dad was a bull rider and my mom a rodeo queen," Herring said. That's what they got Saturday night at The Belfry from Matraca Berg, Suzy Bogguss, and Gretchen Peters. The benefit event netted $32,000 for the Sisters Schools Foundation. The show was relaxed and intimate, with plenty of interaction with the audience. The three women sang harmonies on each others' songs as each drew from a deep... Full story
To the Editor: I want to thank Tim Davis for his letter in last week's Nugget. It was a timely example of why respectful dialogue among competing interests and beliefs has become a thing of the past. As an opponent of the USFS/STA-sponsored paved trail proposal between Sisters and Black Butte Ranch, it reminded me of the reasons citizen activists continue to stand up and speak out. It seems the folks who want the trails don't have much of a desire to engage over the issues. I don't know if Mr. Davis attended any of the four... Full story

Sisters School District closed, and a few delighted kids had a romping good time outside in the snow playing with their dogs. Cold weather can be hard on pets, just like people. Some pets can remain outside longer in the winter than others. In some cases it's just common sense:... Full story
